If you are expecting your first child or another child and you and your spouse both have intensive careers and already feel like life is hectic enough, automating the lighting in your home with a lighting control system may help. There are many benefits to having a lighting control system in your home when you are raising a family. Here are two of them.

Reduces Electricity Bills

According to Energy.gov, approximately 15% of an average household's electricity is used for lighting. Now, consider when you're carrying a crying baby or a thrashing toddler from one room to another, are you going to think about switching the lights on and off? Also, as your child grows, do you think they will remember to turn the lights on and off as they move from room to room?

By automating the lighting in the home with a lighting control system, you can effectively reduce the amount of electricity that is used for lighting and, thus, lower your electricity bill. You can incorporate occupancy sensors to automatically turn the lights on and off as you go from one room to the next. You can also automate the lighting to various dimness and brightness settings, which can also help reduce your electricity bills.

Reduces Risk of Waking Baby

Whoever coined the phrase "sleeping like a baby" must not have had children. Babies often wake up in the middle of the night and need to be fed and have their diapers changed. When taking care of your baby in the middle of the night, you'll want to do so quickly and without turning on any blaring lights or jostling them around on your hip while you fumble for light switches and the baby bottle warming appliance.

Install a lighting control system with occupancy sensors and light settings that can be operated by the sound in your baby's room so that when your baby cries, the lighting will be on a dim setting when it turns on as you activate it by the occupancy motion detectors. Alternatively, the system can be preprogrammed on the dimmest settings for nighttime feedings and diaper changes. That way, you won't run the risk of your baby becoming fully awakened in the wee hours of the morning when you need to sleep so you're prepared for your workday.
